Man hits landlord with chair while resolving conflict

A fashion designer , Toheeb Razak, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates ’ Court for allegedly hitting his 64 -year – old landlord , Theophilus Afolayan , with a plastic chair while resolving a conflict .It was gathered that the wives of the two men were engaged in a fist fight .

Our correspondent learnt that while Afolayan tried to separate the women , the 27 -year – old suspect hit him on the face with a plastic chair .

The prosecution alleged that the accused conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by hitting his landlord with a plastic chair following an argument .

The police prosecutor , Inspector Aondohemba Koti , told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 4 , 2018 around 9 . 30 am at 9 Olomowewe Street , Mushin , Lagos .

Koti said the accused , who also pulled off the complainant ’ s daughter ’ s hair , landed a fist blow on Afolayan ’ s left eye following a disagreement .

“ The wives of both the complainant and the accused were fighting . The complainant tried to separate them when the accused suddenly hit him with a plastic chair on his face , ” he said .

The accused was arraigned on two counts of breach of peace and assault . He , however , pleaded not guilty to the charges .

The police prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 168 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 ( revised ) .

He said Section 173 of the law provided three years imprisonment for assault , while Section 168 stipulated six months jail term for breach of peace .

The presiding magistrate , Mrs M . O . Tanimola , granted the accused bail in the sum of N 80 , 000 with two sureties each in like sum .

Tanimola said the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years ’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court .

She adjourned the case till December 5 , 2018 .
