Real Madrid vs Liverpool: Why Coutinho will receive Champions League medal

Published

Liverpool have decided to give their former midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, a medal following their Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Coutinho is one of 25 players, who have featured for the Reds in Europe this season.

However, he joined Barcelona in a £142million move in January.

Having played for the Reds earlier in the competition, he wasn’t eligible to feature for Barca in the knockout stages.

UEFA regulations stipulate that the Champions League winners are given 40 gold medals and the runners-up are handed 30 silver medals after each final. Distributing them is at each club’s discretion.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has always insisted he didn’t bear a grudge against Coutinho for pursuing the move to Spain and will now send him a medal after the game in Kiev.
