Four Nigerian university students beat colleague to death in Kwara

Four yet-to-be-identified Nigerian students have beaten a colleague to death in Kwara state.


The students of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Malete, in Moro local government area of the state, penultimate week the descended the deceased, whose name could not be ascertained as of press time, for allegedly filming them without their consent.

The victim was said to be recording the four students who were reportedly in a discussion when one of them spotted him.

The four students consequently approached him to know why he was filming them without their consent, to which he couldn’t offer any ‘reasonable explanation’. Afterward, the four enraged students pounced on him for his action.

A student who craved anonymity said “the victim later died from the severity of the beating meted out to him by the students.”

The state police public relations officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP), confirmed the incident on Thursday night.

According to her, “The alleged culprits were four, but I cannot confirm their names now. They have been arrested while an investigation is still ongoing over the matter.”

In another development, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has demanded the immediate rescue of over 200 pupils and staff of LGEA Primary School, Kuriga (1), Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who were kidnapped on Thursday morning.

The association, while expressing sadness over the incident in a statement on Friday by the Universal President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, said the news of the abduction was shocking, and called for a review of security arrangements in and around schools nationwide.

“The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, is deeply saddened and shocked upon receiving the news of the abduction of more than 200 students from a primary and secondary school in Kuriga village of Birnin Gwari, LGA of Kaduna State.

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has demanded the immediate rescue of over 200 pupils and staff of LGEA Primary School, Kuriga (1), Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who were kidnapped on Thursday morning.

The association, while expressing sadness over the incident in a statement on Friday by the Universal President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, said the news of the abduction was shocking, and called for a review of security arrangements in and around schools nationwide.

“The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, is deeply saddened and shocked upon receiving the news of the abduction of more than 200 students from a primary and secondary school in Kuriga village of Birnin Gwari, LGA of Kaduna State.

“The leadership of NANS is calling on security agencies to take immediate action in rescuing these innocent students and ensuring that such an alarming incident does not occur again.

“In addition, we strongly urge the government to urgently review and increase the manpower and remuneration of our security personnel as it currently falls below the United Nations’ recommended level.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the Kaduna State government, families, and guardians of these abducted students. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. We hope for their safe return as soon as possible.

“This heinous act is a clear indication that there is still much work to be done in securing Nigeria’s educational institutions. The safety and wellbeing of our children should be a top priority for the government at all levels, irrespective of their political or religious affiliations. It is crucial that we come together as a nation to tackle this menace before it gets out of hand,” Emonefe said.

Recall that the incident took place in the morning when the bandits rode in on bikes while the students were assembled.
