Court sentences bus conductor to jail for attacking policeman

A 32-year-old bus conductor identified as Benjamin Joseph, has bagged three months prison sentence for assaulting a police officer.


A Jos Magistrates’ Court convicted the defendant on Tuesday, June 4 and sent him to a correctional facility.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the assault was reported on June 9 at the “C” Division Police Station by the officer.

According to Gokwat, the convict allegedly attacked the police officer on duty when he tried to stop him from causing traffic obstruction with his vehicle.

He said the offence is punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

Joseph pleaded guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced him.

Bokkos said the sentence was without an option of fine, adding that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.
