Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Saturday, arrested some persons in connection with allegations of vote-buying in the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election.
This followed allegations by the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Segun Oni, who said residents were being induced to vote for some political parties.
He said, “Some of my agents are worried for the fact that they alleged that there is vote-buying in Ado-Ekiti, Oye and other locations across the state.
“Although, we have captured those areas and we are awaiting what the results from there would be before taking necessary steps.”
Also, Kemi Elebute-Halle, the candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), claimed other political parties are inducing voters with money.
According to her, the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party and SDP were buying votes with N10,000; N5,000, and N3,000 respectively.
Upon their arrest, the EFCC paraded some of the suspects at the Oke Ori Omi Area Division of the Nigerian Police Force.
The anti-graft agency said some of the suspects were caught with monies allegedly used to induce voters.
The operatives further raided another residence where some persons were caught with a book containing details of voters of certain voting areas.
