Due to the recent unrest in the South East, President Muhamadu Buhari had taken a personal control over security challenge as he has held meetings with the top security chiefs in the nation with a hope to curb and put an end to the incessant loss of lives, destruction of properties (both private and govt owned), burning of police stations and attack on police men carried out by unknown Gunmen with alleged ties to the proscribed and designated Terrorist group IPOB and their Easter Security Network (ESN).

After the various meetings with the security chiefs, new security measures were issued out to the military and the police in order to aid them in combating the unrest by Mr. President. Although when the news first broke out, the details of the security measures were unknown leading many to guess on what kind of measures would be carried out. Tensions even rose when the Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor stated early this week that the Instructions of Mr. President would be carried to the later but the new measures have now been revealed by Military sources. According to the military sources the measures were not extreme as once though but were regular operational procedures to check the growing violence.

The police and military have been recording casualties in the South- East during raids and gun battles with the criminals disturbing the region. Therefore, the focus would shift more to air power in the coming weeks. Combat helicopters and other aircraft would be deployed to conduct massive raids on the hideouts from the air. It does not matter whether the hideouts are for the Indigenous People of Biafra or its armed outfit, what the military is looking for are criminals, ” the source revealed.

They added that traditional rulers and community chiefs in connection with the IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra) and ESN (Eastern Security Network) were to be questioned and interrogated.
