Davido, Wizkid Bag South African Music Awards Nomination
Music rivals, Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid) and David Adeleke (Davido) have been nominated in the 2021 South Africa Music Awards, SAMAs..
Davido’s ‘A better Time’ got the nod whiles Wizkid’s Made in Lagos also secured recognition in the 27th edition of the SAMAs. The announcement was made by the South African Music Awards’ via its official Twitter page on the 19th of May 2021.
The duo who personify Afrobeat powerhouses in Nigeria and beyond were named in the category of ‘Rest of Africa’; a category comprising other African artistes that are not South Africans.
The South African Music Awards are the Recording Industry of South Africa’s music industry awards, established in 1995.
The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March (Wikipedia).

Popular Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer, Tekno has been acknowledged by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA, for his work on Davido’s Gold-certified single ”If”.
Davido brought this piece of information to the fore after he published the image of the plaque on his Instagram story while tagging Tekno with a heart emoji. Tekno was credited for writing the hit song for Davido as well as producing it.
The recognition became possible after the hit song attained Gold certification in the United States of America from the RIAA when it sold 500,000 copies in the country. The song is taken off Davido’s ‘A Good Time’ album which happens to be his 5th studio album.
