Struggling Southampton ends Arsenal’s unbeaten run

Published

Arsenal’s 22-match unbeaten run in all competition ends at St Mary’s Stadium as a late Austin goal wins the three points for Southampton in what was a fantastic and exciting football match! The hosts took the lead twice in the first half thanks to Ings’ double and went into the interval 2-1 up, but poor play after the restart allowed the Gunners to force themselves back into the match. Mkhitaryan’s two goals cancelled out Ings’ tally but inspired changes by Hasenhuttl late on – bringing Long and Austin into the match – powered his side to victory as the two forwards combined for the winning goal – a great headed finish after a wonderful chipped cross at the 85th minute.
The result takes Southampton out of the relegation zone and into 17th, while Arsenal stay fifth.
Southampton will be in action again next Saturday when they travel to face Huddersfield Town. Arsenal face rivals Tottenham in a midweek EFL Cup fixture between hosting Burnley in the Premier League next weekend
