Dr Paul Orhii, Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has revealed that Nigeria is seeking for local remedies to cure the deadly Ebola Virus Disease EVD.
The revelation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, by the director of Special Duties, NAFDAC, Abubakar Jimoh, a copy obtained by Leadership.
It said Orhii, who just returned from the World Health Organisation (WHO) emergency meeting advised Nigerians not to be wary of the outbreak of the deadly virus in the country.
The NAFDAC boss assured the public that very soon drugs and vaccines would be made available to contain Ebola virus.
“We have some Nigerian remedies that we are looking at very closely and after investigation, we hope that they will be able to contain the Ebola virus” Orhii said.
The NAFDAC boss further reiterated that Ebola is not a death sentence in Nigeria because the federal government through the ministry of health has effectively and successfully contained the outbreak from spreading.
It would be recalled that the deadly Ebola Virus was imported to Nigeria by the late Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer. So far Nigeria has recorded only eight casualties following the outbreak.
There was however, a sigh of relieve after the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, announced that the country has successfully contained the virus. EVD which reportedly broke in Lagos and later Porthacourt, has been rumoured to have spread to other states in the country.  The World Health Organisation, WHO, revealed that over 2,296 people have died from the disease since it broke in West Africa early this year.
