"President to be banished in Ijaw land if …" – Ex-militants Reveals
Hundreds of Ex- Militants in the Niger Delta, held a procession in the streets of Benin City weekend, calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to declare his intension to run for the 2015 presidential election.
The ex-militants who warned that the President may be banished in Ijaw land if he failed to do so, said they are not happy with some threats and provocative statements coming from the North, asserting that they will not allow any group or individual to intimidate their kinsman.
In a statement signed by the leader of the group, Godstime Ogidigba and Speaker, Peter Edah respectively, they also called on Nigerians to cooperate with the Federal Government in the fight against Boko Haram, asserting that any attempt to stop Jonathan’s presidency will be resisted.
According to the statement, “ the call became necessary at a time like this when some individuals and selfish politicians are over heating the polity ,making provocative comments, saying Mr President promised them that he will run for just one term as if they are now the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Therefore we warn any group of person or politicians that will attempt to stop Mr President from exercising his fundamental human right, this will put the unity of Nigeria in a great risk. We, therefore call on you to contest the seat of the President.
“That for any reason that make you not to contest come 2015, you should not come back home but remain in Abuja forever”. While expressing confidence that Nigeria will soon overcome the security challenges and the eventual release of the abducted Chibok girls, the repentant militants urged Nigerians to support the transformation agenda of the federal government
