“Killers of military officers in Delta may be mercenaries, not Nigerians” – Senate President reveals
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has stated that the armed assailants who reportedly killed 16 soldiers in Delta State may be foreigners.
Recall that last week, 16 personnel of the Nigerian Army were killed in Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Akpabio while speaking two merged motions by Senators Abdulaziz Yar’Adua and Edeh Dafinone, opined that those who killed the soldiers may be mercenaries.
The senate president said;
“We are not at war. I don’t think they are from the Niger Delta. They may be mercenaries.”
The Upper Legislative chamber further ordered its Committee on Defence, Army, Navy, and Air Force to liaise with the Military authorities to probe into the killings and get more information.
The Red Chamber further called on the Federal Government to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to book, just as it observed a minute silence in the honour of those killed. It also called for the recruitment of more police officers so that the military would not be dragged into civil matters.
