Controversial Gospel Singer Getumbe Arrested

Eldoret-based Gospel singer William Getumbe, known for his controversial song ‘Yesu Ninyandue,’ has been arrested.

Reports indicate that he was taken into custody on Monday night, spending the night at Kapsoya Police Station in Eldoret. He is scheduled to appear in court today.

This development follows public outcry from Kenyans who demanded his arrest, expressing sentiments that his song is blasphemous and constitutes a mockery of Christianity.

“Yesu ninyandue, yesu ninyandue, nipate mimba ya imani,” goes part of the lyrics, which we will not translate because of the level of vulgarity.

“Umekubali kunyanduliwa mimi ni bikira kama Mariamu, ulimnyandua hata maji ya uzima, hata mimi baba ninyandue, niingize forever, baraka forever. Yesu ninyandue ingia ndani,” he sings along.

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has responded by issuing a demand letter to the owner of the song, William Getumbe. The letter urges him to remove the song from various online platforms or face potential legal consequences.

The demand letter explicitly stated:

“A demand letter has been issued to Embarambamba and Getumbe to remove any inappropriate content from their various platforms. Failure to comply will result in legal action in accordance with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya.”
