“Christian Atsu is still missing, we can’t confirm his whereabouts” — Agent cries out
Christian Atsu’s agent, Nana Sechere, has debunked media reports that he has been rescued alive from the rubble of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6.
News made rounds earlier that the 31-year-old former Newcastle and Chelsea player was rescued after his voice was heard under the rubble of his Turkey home on Tuesday.
The spokesman of his club, Hayatspork, also claimed that the winger was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries after a ‘miracle rescue’.
However, in a new statement posted online by his agent, Nana Sechere, he stated that Atsu is still missing and that they are yet to confirm his whereabouts.
“Following yesterday’s update from the club that Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts.
As you can imagine, this continues to be a deva§tating time for his family and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian,” he said in the statement posted on Twitter.
Hayatspor’s doctor also said all efforts to find Atsu and his sporting director, Taner Savut, has been futile, leading to fears that they might still be in danger.
“When we heard the news about Taner Savut and Christian Atsu that they were taken to the Dortyol Hospital, we went to the hospital and they were not there,”
He added that at present “unfortunately Taner and Christian Atsu” are being regarded as “not found”.
Over 11,000 people have been confirmed dead in the massive earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday.
