Assassination of LP women leader: Buhari, El-Rufai’s silence raises concern
Nearly one week after the gruesome murder of the Labour Party women leader, in Kaura Area Council of Kaduna State, Mrs Victoria Chintex, both the Kaduna State Government and the presidency have maintained silence..
Edujandon.com recalls that Chimtex was gunned down at her residence in Kaura on Monday night by gunmen yet-to-be identified who reportedly broke into her apartment at about 8pm.
The ugly incident, which caused pandemonium in the area a few days ago, has generated controversies from concerned Nigerians who fingered party thugs.
Edujandon.com reports that despite outcries from party members and several other stakeholders across the country, Governor Nasir El-Rufai and President Muhammadu Buhari’s government are yet to issue any statement to condemn the unfortunate incident.
According to several Nigerians, the gunmen suspected to be assassins could have been sponsored by an opposition party to silence her voice in drumming support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
A spokesperson of the LP Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, Kenneth Okonkwo had while reacting to the shocking incident, tackled the State governor, saying if the perpetrators are not apprehended with immediate effect, El-Rufai should be held responsible.
Kenneth Okonkwo, a famous Nollywood actor, who took to his Twitter handle to condemn the killing, said El-Rufai as the Chief Security Officer of the State, should be blamed for the assassination if killers are not arrested.
He wrote, “The Labour Party Women Leader in Kaura, Kaduna State, Victoria Chintex, was on Monday, 28th Nov, shot dead by suspected assassins.
“The APC Governor of Kaduna State, El-Rufai, should be held responsible for her death as the CSO, if the killers are not apprehended immediately”.
Edujandon.com , however, gathered on Saturday that though efforts are on top gear to apprehend the criminal elements, no arrest has been made so far.
When contacted by our correspondent for an update on the matter, the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mohammed Jalige said he would inquire and get back.
The PPRO was unable to revert as of the time of filing this report.
Speaking with new men on the assassination of the women leader, the Labour Party Chairman, Kaduna State chapter, Alhaji Ali Tafoqi said the incident was politically motivated.
Tafoqi, who revealed that the victim will be buried in the next 30 days, also confirmed that El-Rufai’s government is yet to issue a statement on the killing.
He said, “to the best of my knowledge, the governor has not reacted to the killing. There has never been a crisis in the area where she was killed. We were all surprised that such a thing occurred.
“It was an issue of assassination because they shot the husband twice outside before they gained entrance into the house and killed her. It was a direct assassination”.
Asked if there was political motive on the assassination, the party chairman said, “yes, because she has been very active bringing people to Labour Party, right now you can feel the presence of the party in the area, unlike before when there was none”.
