FG Files New Charges Against Nnamdi Kanu Over Sit-At-Home Order And 6 Other Allegations (Details below)

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), could be spending more time in detention as the federal government has reportedly filed a 7-count amended terrorism charge against him.

According to Vanguard, it was discovered that the federal government had filed before the federal high court in Abuja the amended charge that marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015.

The new charge contained the allegations against Kanu earlier sustained by the trial court. In a broadcast received and heard by Nigerians, the federal government specifically alleged that Kanu threatened that anyone disobeyed the sit-at-home should write his or her will.

The FG told the court that the threat had led the banks, schools, markets and many other businesses domiciled in the eastern states, grounding citizens and vehicular movements.

The government also alleged that Kanu, on different dates between 2018 and 2021, made broadcasts to incite members of the public to hunt and kill Nigerian security personnel, as well as their families.

It then added that this is a punishable offence under section 1(2) (h) of the terrorism prevention amendment act 2013.
