Manchester City fight back for point in Newcastle thriller

Manchester City’s 100 per cent start to the season is over but, all things considered, a 3-3 draw wasn’t a bad result at all against Newcastle United..

It looked like business as usual for City when Ilkay Gundogan put them ahead within five minutes but the Magpies were undeterred and really got into Pep Guardiola’s side. A relentless pressing game and the brilliance of Allan Saint-Maximin saw them go in ahead at the break.

Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson grabbed the goals and then Kieran Trippier added a third with a stunning free-kick in the second half. Things were looking bleak for the Blues but a whirlwind few minutes saw Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva score to drag them back level.

Trippier was then shown a red card for a high challenge on Kevin De Bruyne but it was then overturned after VAR was consulted.
