John OkeOghene Afareha, the Catholic Bishop of Warri, urged Christians to cast their ballots in the 2023 national elections by submitting their Permanent Voter’ s Card, PVC; he also urged them to worship god.

For his 75th birthday and 25th year as bishop Afareha gave this command during a press conference held in the Chancery office of Bishop of the Uvwie Local Government Council, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government.

As the 2023 general election nears, Bishop Afareha urged Nigerians to pray to God for a peace loving, free, and democratic election that will bring in executives who fear God and listen to the people’ s wishes.

Most Rev. Afareha said that the church’ s teachings against crime have not slowed down, pointing out that in Catholic schools, moral doctrines are taught in addition to the regular curriculum so that students are taught how to behave better in community. .

The vicar of public relations for the Catholic Diocese of Warri and chairman of the planning committee for the 75th birthday celebration, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Christopher Ekabo, lauded the bishop’ s laudable development strides, noting that from three deaneries, he has increased the numbers to 25 deaneries and five Episcopal Regions.

Ekabo has said that the bishop has also put in place a contemporary Bishop Court, Jubilee Conference and Retreat Center, education of Catholic priests both both within and without Nigeria, Catechetical Training Institute, Oleh, institution of Catholic schools in churches, Financial Program for physically challenged, old people, and the creation of indigenous religious order for women, among other initiatives.

Ekabo also noted that the diocese’ s presbyterate has grown from about 80 to over 166 and the number of churches from 80 to 156 since he became the Diocese’ s meaningful Bishop.

Rev. Fr. Leonard Okoli, the secretary for Warri Diocese’ s planning committee, and Rev. Fr. Cletus Enwefah, the diocese’ s chancellor, all lauded Bishop Thaddeus Okpowodu for his role in the diocese’ s social communication efforts.

Born in 1947, the bishop has served the Catholic Diocese of Warri for the past 12 years as both a substantive and an auxiliary bishop. He was ordained a priest in 1973 and has been in office since.
