Manchester United’s board is convinced it has finally found the club’s next manager, according to The Sun.

The United board has concluded that Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is the manager needed to revive the club’s fortunes after carrying out analysis on all the candidates, the newspaper added.

Manchester United have increased their effort as they look around Europe for a new permanent successor to interim boss, Ralf Rangnick.

The club’s hierarchy had been looking into the lives and careers of a host of European managers, with a view to making an appointment as soon as the season is over.

Ten Hag, who is the current boss at Ajax, has long been one of the leading names in United’s list, with his closest challenger being Mauricio Pochettino of PSG.

Just recently, Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel also emerged as a potential option following the sanction against the Blues’ outgoing owner, Roman Abramovich.

However, The Sun reports that the Red Devils’ board believes it is Ten Hag who represents all that the club wants for a manager.

The club’s board, together with the interim manager, Ralf Rangnick are massively impressed with Ten Hag’s style of play.

The club compiled extensive background checks on all their targets and it was the Dutchman who got the nod, even ahead of Pochettino.

Current interim boss, Rangnick will leave the managerial position and take up a consultancy role at the end of the season.

He also played a part in the process which has seen Ten Hag identified as his most likely successor.
