Xavi Hernandez had previously stated that if Dembele didn’t give an indication that he would stay at the Camp Nou, the player would need to be sold before the close of the January window..

This was followed by Mateu Alemany’s statement on Thursday afternoon, in which he detailed how the player wasn’t committed to the project and would therefore be sold this winter.

“For four years gossip about me has been built up, there have been shameful lies about me for the sole purpose of harming me,” Dembele detailed in a social media post.

“I have never responded, but today it’s over.

“I am going to answer without giving in to any kind of blackmail, I dismiss anyone who thinks that I’m not committed to the sporting project, I’m still under contract and I’m fully involved and at the disposal of my coach, I’m not a man who gives in to blackmail

“Don’t think I’m out of the project. Don’t speak of intentions I never had. I’ve a contract and I’m available for Xavi. I’m not gonna give up”.

“There are contract talks ongoing. My agent is on it – I’m only focusing on the pitch”.
