#AFCON2021: Eguavoen reveals what he told Super Eagles player after elimination
Former interim coach of Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, has revealed that he told Super Eagles players to ensure they qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar..
Eguavoen said this following Super Eagles’ 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash on Sunday.
The 56-year-old, who stepped down as the interim coach of the Nigeria national team after Tunisia defeated the Super Eagles, also insisted that the players fought hard against the North African side.
“The boys fought, officiating wasn’t fair. Congratulations to Tunisia,” Eguavoen said after the match.
“I have told the boys to pick up and ensure they qualify Nigeria for the World Cup.”
Eguavoen had led the Super Eagles to three straight wins against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau in the AFCON group stage.
He stepped in after Gernot Rohr was sacked last December.
However, the NFF announced Jose Peseiro as the new permanent coach before the AFCON kicked off.
