Samuel Eto’o, the Cameroon football legend, has been elected to lead the Cameroon Football Federation for the next four years.

Eto’o was announced as new president on Saturday at the federation’s general assembly.

The four-time African Footballer of the Year and former Indomitable Lions international defeated rival, Seidou Mbombo Njoya, the fourth Vice- President at the Confederation of African Football.

Five candidates, who were supposed to contest the elections, pulled out on the morning of the election, leaving only Eto’o and Mbombo to fight for the position.

The 40-year-old former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker managed 43 votes against Mbombo Njoya’s 31.

Eto’o after his victory promised a wide range of reforms to move the sport forward including constructing at least 10 stadiums during his mandate.

Reacting to the development, Eto’o in a social media post said, “I’ll be remembering today as one of the proudest moments of my life.

“I’m deeply grateful to be elected as new president of Fecafoot. Every single vote represents the energy and ambition of our football family to take our beloved sport to a level we’ve never seen before. Let’s get to work.”
