Insecurity: Let us apologise to Goodluck Jonathan now – Bamgbose tells Nigerians

Olusegun Bamgbose, chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, has called on Nigerians, young and old, to apologise to former president, Goodluck Jonathan..

According to him, it was now very obvious that Nigerians in 2015 and 2019 took a decision that its dire consequences may live with them for a very long time.

“In 2015 we ignorantly kicked out Jonathan, believing that he is our problem. We replaced him with Buhari, former Head of State, a retired Major General,” he told DAILY POST on Thursday speaking about the spate of insecurity and increasing tension in the country.

“Most Nigerians, me included, wrongly thought that as a retired Major General, the issue of insecurity will be decisively tackled, but realities on ground now have shown that we were wrong and we are guilty of committing a great blunder by enthroning Buhari,” he added.

Bamgbose further stated that the bigger mistake was Nigerians having to vote in Buhari for second term, adding that he warned the electorates back then that the second term of this administration would be a nightmare.

“I can remember vividly that there were two basic reasons why Nigerians preferred Buhari to Jonathan in 2015. One was the issue of insecurity. Many Nigerians felt that Jonathan could not tame insecurity, and believed a retired Major General will be better,” he added.

“We have been proved wrong on that. In terms of insecurity, it has become worse. During the Jonathan era, the insecurity was just in the North East axis, however insecurity has engulfed the whole nation as of today.

“The second major reason was the allegation that the level of corruption during Jonathan’s regime was getting out of hand. Nigerians believed that Buhari, the WAI Brigade Commander will stem the tide of corruption in Nigeria.

“Very unfortunately we have been proved wrong again. The level of corruption under Buhari’s regime is higher. It’s my humble submission that Goodluck Jonathan deserves an apology from Nigerians.

“Buhari’s administration has failed woefully to tackle corruption and insecurity upon which many Nigerians voted for him. Goodluck Jonathan should forgive Nigerians,” he said
