On Monday Vice President Yemi Osinbajo stirred the hornets’ nest with the speech he delivered virtually at the 12th Bola Tinubu Colloquium in commemoration of Tinubu’ s 69th birthday in Kano.

The Vice President warned those who are pushing for the breakup of Nigeria to have a rethink, adding that if Nigeria breaks up, they may need visas to travel to places like Kano.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was the special guest of honour at the colloquium. He said that the initial plan was to make the colloquium to be completely virtual, but Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, offered to host a physical event at Kano State Government House to run alongside the virtual one on Zoom.

Osinbajo said that those who are agitating for Nigeria to be broken into fragments should be reminded that they would not have been able to come to Kano at such short notice because they would have needed visas to go to Kano.

The Vice President added that Kano state is a strategic location, because radical and progressive ideals started from there.

When Sahara Reporters made the report, the Vice President’ s statement came as a big surprise to thousands of Nigerians, and they immediately took to the comments to pour out their minds. Some of the reactions are so funny, and we decided to take a look at some of them.

Some asked what they would be going to Kano to do if Nigeria breaks up, saying that the high insecurity level is enough to discourage anyone from going there.

Some said that the Vice President should also tell the Northerners that if Nigeria breaks up and they will need a visa to come to the commercial nerve centre of West Africa Lagos.

Another said that since he was born he has never been to Kano, so why would he want to go there if Nigeria divides.

Below are some more funny reactions from members of the public:
