The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, had earlier made it known that he did not ask the Nigerian army to go after Igbos in Oyigbo Local Government Areas.

He confirmed that curfew was declared on Oyigbo to bring back law and order after the members of already proscribed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacked public officials and buildings.

Governor Nyesom Wike clarified the activities of the Nigerian Military in Oyigbo in a live broadcast addressing the state on T.V.

According to the governor, the activities of IPOB have been banished in any place within the state. He confirmed that not all Igbos are in support of IPOB activities in the state.

He further reiterated that he has no relationship with the Army and the Police. The Governor said he has no power to coordinate and order the military or the police.

In his address, Governor Nyesom Wike confirmed that the government is not regretting its decision on IPOB. He made it known that South-East governors have never upheld IPOB, and queried why a governor from South-South must put up with the gathering of IPOB in his state.

Governor Nyesom Wike confirmed that banners of IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu’s image were found in hallowed places after the military officers swung into actions at Oyigbo.

He talked about the plan of his administration to be of help to groups that have been affected by the activities of the IPOB, especially the security workforce.

Several hours after Governor Nyesom Wike denied ordering the soldiers to kill Igbos in Oyigbo Local Government Area, the Peoples Democratic Party has also debunked the information that the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, ordered the Nigerian Military to kill the Igbos in Oyigbo Local Government Area.

A video of Mr. Governor addressing the state was also posted to buttress the fact that he did not order the killing of Igbos in Rivers State.
