Nobody wishes to get a debit alert from an unknown source except it is authorized by them. However, things like this happen. It can happen to anyone, and this happens when the person’s card has been hacked or when someone has gotten the personal detail of a person and uses it to make a purchase or withdrawal without the owner’s knowledge.

You might be asleep and you wake up to a debit alert from a source you are unfamiliar with. This can be very annoying, and if a person isn’t careful he/she may panic and make the wrong decisions.

However, you don’t have to panic in cases like this. All you have to do is to act smart and fast. Here is what to do when a situation like this comes up.

Firstly, you have to take your phone and change your card pin as fast as possible. This is because before all transactions whether a withdrawal, or transfer is completed, the last requirement for the transaction to be successful is the user’s pin. It may be that the person carrying out the criminal act on your account already knows your pin. Hence, changing your pin would make any further transaction on your account limited to you alone.
Secondly, it is advisable to transfer all your remaining money to another account, preferably the account of someone you trust like a family member. This is because some of these criminals don’t know the exact amount in your account, so they try to take the money bit by bit using their discretion. You transferring your remaining balance would make it Impossible for them to make any further withdrawals or purchase with your account.

Thirdly, you can call your account manager to help you block the account immediately. Blocking your account would make any more transaction impossible.

However, if you do not have your account manager’s number, it is advisable to change your pin and go to the bank to lodge a complain about the criminal activity on your account. The operators in the bank would assist in retrieving your money back, and also tracking the criminal. It is pertinent to note that every action you make regarding securing your account after any criminal activity has been carried out on it must be fast.
