Real Madrid vs Ajax: Zidane was clever to leave Santiago Bernabeu when Cristiano Ronaldo did – Gullit

Former Chelsea manager, Ruud Gullit has said that former Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane was clever to leave the Santiago Bernabeu at the same time as forward, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gullit said this while reacting to Real Madrid’s 4-1 defeat to Ajax in the Champions League round of 16 second-leg clash with Ajax on Tuesday night.

Goals from Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone ensured Ajax dumped Real Madrid out of the Champions League.

However, Marco Asensio did score a goal for Real Madrid.
Zidane and Ronaldo both left Real Madrid last season following a third consecutive Champions League title.
“Zidane was clever enough to get out of there [Real Madrid] on time when they lost Ronaldo,” Gullit told beIN Sports.

“That’s the whole point. And whoever comes after that has a difficult task.
“You have no Ronaldo. That’s 50 goals you don’t have.”
