Jigawa: Kidnappers fail to release INEC staff after collecting N500,000 ransom

Kidnappers of the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, staff in Jigawa State have demanded 500,000 ransom for his freedom.

Father to the kidnapped victim, Malam Mahadi Kofar Wambai, revealed to DAILY POST that the kidnappers demanded 500,000 before they could free the victim.


He explained that the kidnappers contacted him through a telephone call on Saturday and demanded the amount on the following day and threatened to kill him if we fail to comply with the arrangement.

“They demanded 500,000 as ransom or kill him if we fail to give the said amount on the following day,” he said.

Malam Mahadi said that on Sunday he paid the said amount to the kidnappers but they failed to release him.

Meanwhile, INEC has confirmed that its Jigawa State staff last Friday was missing on his way on Kazaure, Gwiwa Road.

The INEC HOD Voter Education and Publicity in the state, Mr. John Kaiwa, said Mr. Mahadi has been missing since Friday.

The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police CP Bala Zama Senchi‎, said his command was yet to receive any report related to the kidnap of INEC staff in the state.
