Peter Obi Reacts To Father Mbaka’s Prediction On Atiku/Obi’s Presidential Bid
Vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi, has asked supporters to stop attacking Father Ejike Mbaka, over his latest comments.
Edujandon.com reported on Monday that during a 2018 harvest and bazaar celebration in Enugu, fiery Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, said that PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running-mate, Peter Obi’s presidential bid would end in shame, if he continued on the same trajectory.
Mbaka who spoke in Igbo, said: “Ask Atiku if it is these steps that the cow will take to reach Umuahia.”
Mbaka berated Atiku’s running mate, Peter Obi. Though he said they had always supported Obi, he stated that Obi had not done anything for his church, adding that Obi failed to make a donation at the bazaar celebration.
In a swift reaction, the former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, said he did not feel bad about the cleric’s statement which has sparked different reactions from Nigerians.
Speaking through Val Obienyem, his media aide, Peter Obi said it is “wrong for priests to be attacked based on what they said on the pulpits”.
He was quoted as saying he has a reverend sister and reverend father as siblings.
“Please let us leave Fr. Mbaka alone; our duty to him is prayers for God to lead him aright,” he said.
“While one may disagree with him, we should always acknowledge that he speaks and acts from the, higher perspective of wisdom.
“I have full respect for men of God and will always remember them in my prayers.
“When they go wrong as humans, subject to human frailties, ours is not to castigate them, but to pray to God to lead them aright.”
Obi described donations to churches as an “appreciation of God’s love and benevolence to us”, saying “they attract more rewards when done secretly”.
