Paul Scholes replies when asked if Zinedine Zidane would be right for Man United
The Man United legend isn’t sure whether Zinedine Zidane is the right contender to replace Jose Mourinho
Paul Scholes has cast doubt on whether Zinedine Zidane would be the right manager to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
The Red Devils are continuing to toil in the Premier League after Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Manchester United have failed to win their last three Premier League games following a 3-1 loss to Manchester City and draws with Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
The Red Devils are in eighth place in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of the top four to leave Manchester United with work to do to secure a spot in the Champions League next term.
Mourinho’s side have conceded an alarming 25 goals in 15 games this season to highlight a clear weakness at the back, while the Manchester United boss has been unable to get the best out of world-class talents such as Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.
Zidane won three Champions League titles and the La Liga crown during his spell in charge of Real Madrid, with the France legend receiving praise for getting the best out of the Galacticos in his squad.
However, former Manchester United midfielder Scholes, who was part of the team that got the better of Zidane and his Juventus team in the Champions League semi-finals in 1999, isn’t sure if the Real Madrid icon would be a suitable replacement for Mourinho.
“Is Zidane the right man though?” Scholes told BT Sport on Wednesday night when asked about the possibility of Zidane taking over the reins at Old Trafford.
“He went in to Real Madrid who had a group of ready made winners already.
“This is a totally different job he would have to be rebuild confidence with a squad that isn’t quite performing. He went to Real Madrid with so many great players, it was still difficult but, this would be a whole rebuilding job.”
