Moldova president injured in car crash
Moldova ’ s President Igor Dodon was hospitalised with slight injuries after his car turned over Sunday , the Eastern European country ’ s security services said.Dashboard video from the car travelling behind the president ’ s, released by the security services , shows an oncoming truck moving to overtake before colliding with Dodon ’ s Mercedes.
A doctor at a hospital in capital Chisinau where Dodon was being treated said the president was scratched and bruised but in a “ satisfactory condition ”.
Dodon ’ s mother and one of his three sons , who were travelling with him , were more seriously injured but also in a satisfactory condition , Doctor Mikhai Chekan told AFP .
A security guard was also injured in the collision .
The accident occurred roughly 40 kilometres ( 25 miles ) outside Chisinau , Dodan’ s press secretary Maxim Lebedinskiy said.
The president ’ s motorcade was driving “according to the rules, ” Lebedinskiy added .
Pro -Moscow Dodon won the presidency in 2016 after beating a pro -European rival in what was dubbed an East – West tug of war .
