Barcelona tweeted powerful 10-word message after Leo Messi’s FIFA Best omission

Lionel Messi has not made the final three for FIFA’s Best Player of the Year award. It’s the first time since 2006 that the little Argentine has been missing from the final stage, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah making the cut instead.

Messi has won the award on five occasions, but his double-winning season was deemed not enough to see him nominated this time around.

Barcelona’s talisman was Europe’s leading goalscorer last season and was also tied for the most assists in La Liga.

The fact that the Blaugrana were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the Champions League and Argentina in the last-16 of the World Cup sealed Messi’s fate.

However, there is a large amount of football fans that believe the Argentine should not only be nominated, but he should be lifting the trophy.

He carried Barca through large parts of the season, topping the La Liga charts in virtually every department – no player in Europe created more chances than the serial goal scorer.

And his club have decided to take matters into their own hands, posting a powerful 10-word message to their 29 million followers on Twitter.

BARCA’S MESSAGE TO THE FOOTBALLING WORLD

The La Liga champions wrote: “No doubt for Barça Fans. He is the best. Period.”

A lot of people will agree with their message.

Messi is also unlikely to get his hands on his sixth Ballon d’Or at the end of the year, with Ronaldo, Modric and Salah ahead of him according to the bookies.

But the Barca captain will likely be unfazed by personal accolades, with his main focus being winning back the Champions League from Real Madrid.

Barca’s last triumph was back in 2015, with Los Blancos winning the last three trophies.

After a summer of impressive spending from the Blaugrana, they look well poised to dethrone their bitter rivals.
