Stoke City Manager Mark Hughes Planning Contract Talks With Peter Crouch Today

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed Stoke will speak to striker Peter Crouch about the possibility of signing a new contract later today.

Hughes, speaking this morning and ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Crystal Palace, said: “Pete is an exceptional player and a great guy as well.”I think people speak too much about his age. It’s a credit to him that he’s playing at a level he is and I don’t think he feels he’s 36/37.

“He’s of the view he’s got two or three more years at this level and I don’t disagree.

It’s our intention that we will offer him a deal very soon. There’s been an indication that’s the way we are going and I will probably speak to him today.”

Hughes added that there was no doubt in his mind that Crouch will become Stoke’s leading Premier League scorer before too long.

He is currently tied with Jon Walters, a Burnley player since the summer of course, on 43 Premier League goals for Stoke City after netting three in the top flight from the bench this season.

Crouch, who is 37 in January, has a deal until the end of the season and chairman Peter Coates has already said the club intends extending his stay.
