Police Burst Car Theft Syndicate in Taraba

The Police in Taraba on Sunday paraded a syndicate of suspected criminals who specialize in car theft and burglary.

 

Parading the suspects at the Command headquarters in Jalingo, State Commissioner of police, Mr. Dave Akinremi named the suspected criminals to include Bashir Mohammed, Abdullahi Mohammed and Shaanimi Muhammed.

 

Represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP. David Misal, the police commissioner said the suspects named above and five others already charged to court were responsible for some heinous crimes in the state.

 

According to the commissioner, the gang leader, Bashir Mohammed who came from Kaduna state led the syndicate in an operation in Jalingo where two cars from the residents of the state and a Plasma Television were stolen.

 

He explained that the unrelenting efforts of the men of the command led to the apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of Toyota Camry with Reg. No KMC 79AP Kano, a plasma TV as well as another car which they earlier stole and sold in Mubi in Adamawa state.

 

The commissioner also informed that his men acting on intelligent report arrested and recovered items stolen by the syndicate sometimes last month when they invaded the staff quarters of the Taraba State University in Jalingo.

Some of the suspects, Bashir Mohammed and Abdulahi Mohammed in an interview with journalists confessed to the crime but blamed their action on the hardships in the country.

 

It could be recalled that the State police command recently paraded another set of 120 suspected criminals for various crimes in the state and vowed to crack down on more criminals, even as they solicited the support of the public to succeed in their quest to ensure a crime-free society.
