FOLLOWING the rising tension in the country, Senate President Bukola Saraki has asked Senators to seriously educate their constituents on the continued need to keep Nigeria as one indivisible nation.

Saraki who spoke Tuesday night during a meeting with the South East Senate caucus, said that the National Assembly was spearheading the fight against calls for disintegration of the country, adding that the meeting became imperative because of the urgent need to save Nigeria from total collapse.

Senate President Saraki had entered into a marathon meeting with the South East Senators as part of ways to find a lasting solution to the crisis between the military and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

A source told Vanguard yesterday that his meeting with the South East Senate Caucus Tuesday night focused on the Federal government’s military show of force in the South East through its body called Python dance 11, presently taking place particularly in the remote villages around Umuahia the Abia State capital.

At the meeting, Saraki was said to have told the lawmakers that they must all go to their constituencies to dounce tension as Nigeria as a country cannot afford another civil war against the backdrop of the implication of such and its effects, just as the categorization of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB as a terrorist organization also formed the centre of discourse at the meeting.

Speaking to Vanguard, the source said, ” the meeting the Senate President held with the South East Senators was a bid to save the country from disintegration and total collapse. Every one is running around to salvage the country and the meeting was designed to mobilize the Senators and members of the House of Representatives to dounce tension in the land.

” The senate is trying to look at the peaceful coexistence of all Nigerians, states and as a country and for us to move forward, Saraki is spearheading the move to get Senators from the South East to live up to expectation to get their people to trend softly.”

The source further said that ” Nigerians must reflect deeply that not all the countries of the world want us as a country to remain as one, to remain united as a country with 170 million people and for us to go into 30 million cannot work, it cannot help us as our strength as a country would be threatened.

” It had been predicted that Nigeria will break in 2015 and thank God that we outlived that and these countries are not happy that we are still together hence they want us to divide which explains why the Senate President is going on with these meetings, preaching peaceful coexistence among one another.”
