Fuel Tanker Crash Kills Driver, Injures 2 Other in Ebonyi State
The driver of a tanker carrying petroleum product that fell at Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, while negotiating a bend on the highway, reportedly died, as two of his conductors are currently lying in critical conditions at a hospital in Abakaliki.
The Ebonyi State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, weekend, confirmed through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odimpa Paul, that the driver of the tanker died on the spot.
Paul stated that men and officers of the Corps condoned off the scene of the incident to enable their men protect lives and properties in the area and stop people from scooping the product until another vehicle arrived for trans-loading.
According to him, the number plates of the tanker were Abuja BWR 969 XC, and it was carrying 40 litres of AGO, otherwise known as diesel, from Port Harcourt en route Makurdi.
He said: “The tanker fell while trying to negotiate a bend along Abakaliki-Afikpo Expressway.
“People are at the scene, but the area has been condoned off. Of the three conductors accompanying the tanker, only one of them was unhurt, while two others are in critical conditions.”
