Ex EFCC Chairman, Lamorde Drags Senate, IGP, DSS To Court Over Probe
The immediate past chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde has sued the Senate over the invitation extended to him to appear to give a detailed account of his stewardship as the head of the anti-graft agency.
In the suit filed through his counsel, Mr. Festus Keyamo, the former EFCC boss joined the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Service as defendants. Lamorde asked the court to determine whether in view of the provisions of Section 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution, the Senate can invite him to give account of his stewardship of an office he had already vacated.
He therefore asked the court to declare that in view of the provisions of sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the 1st and 2nd defendants, their officers, members, agents or privies cannot “invite” him to appear before them as a person whose conduct of affairs is being investigated by them in relation to issues concerning office(s) he has already vacated.
He asked the court to make an order of injunction against the defendants restraining them from executing any warrant issued by the 1st and 2nd Defendants (IGP and DG DSS) against him.
