A judge in Osun State, Justice A. O. Oguntade, at the state High Court, Ede, has bared journalists from covering the divorce case of billionaire business man Deji Adeleke, Davido’s dad, and his estrange wife, Teju.
According to reports the judge asked journalists who were present in court on Monday when the matter was mentioned to vacate the court room. The same thing was also repeated yesterday, Thursday, Nov. 19, when chief Adeleke was in court. The journalists were politely asked to leave the court and were escorted out by a senior police officer. Heard the billionaire said he doesn’t want his divorce going public.
On Monday, November 16, the divorce case between billionaire business tycoon, Deji Adeleke against his wife Adepeju Margaret Adeleke came up at the State High Court, Ede, Osun State.
Deji Adeleke who is the petitioner is seeking for divorce on reasons interalia that friends and family members are against the union and was filed by Adeleke in March 2014 while the case began in June same year.
During the court hearing, five major drama took place.
1. Because of Davido’s father, other cases preceding the divorce case were stepped down by the judge giving the reason for the distance Davido’s father travelled for the hearing.
Justice A. O. Oguntade of the Federal High Court, Ede, Osun state had before the proceeding started adjourned four cases listed for his attention and gave reasons that lawyers in the other cases are residents in Osun while those involved in the divorce case would have to return to Lagos hence his decision to adjourn other cases.
2. Lawyers Tackled Judge Over Adjournment of four other cases.
Lawyer to the respondent, Kemi Pinhero (SAN) leveled allegations of bias against the judge. Pinhero questioned the Judge’s ability to perform his constitutional functions and hold an even scale between the parties. Pinhero wondered why a divorce case listed and a land case of 2010 should be adjourned to hurriedly single out the Adeleke / Margaret’s case for consideration and that matrimony cases should not ordinarily earn fast track status above land matters.
3. Journalists were sent out of the court room.
Davido’s father lawyer, Barrister Wale Afolabi, called the attention of the judge to the journalists that stormed the court room. This made Justice Oguntade send all journalists out of the court room.
4. Relatives of the respondent and the petitioner were locked out for lateness.
Relatives of both parties who arrived later also had a taste of the Justice Oguntade’s anger as he gave an order that nobody should be allowed entry into the Court. They were later allowed into the court after being identified as non-journalists.
5. The court gallery was cleared before the proceedings began.
Margaret Adeleke is Davido’s dad second wife who he married in 2011. The billionaire’s first wife, Davido’s mum, late Veronica Adeleke died on March 6, 2003.
