Drunk Policeman Kills Young Secondary School Boy In Ogun State
Pandemonium struck this afternoon in Ijebu Ode when a hit and run police officer, who was in mufti hit a young secondary school boy and killed him on the spot.
The incident which occurred at exactly 4:20 p.m. along Abeokuta road, Aiyegun junction, before Skye bank caused vehicular traffic as irate mob stormed the scene hoping to catch up with the driver.
The officer, whose identity can be verified as at the time of this report, is believed to be the Station Officer, S.O at the New market Police post in Ijebu Ode. He was reportedly drunk and lost control while driving.
The young boy was identified as Opeyemi Osibanjo, 14, a JSS 3 student of Moslem Comprehensive High School, Imepe, Ijebu Ode. He resides with his parent at Ejirin road, Ijebu Ode.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the boy, who was still wearing his school short was sent on an errand shortly after he returned from school.
Immediately the police officer driving a dim green colour Primera car hit the boy, the drunk officer ran towards Skye bank for cover but the security personnel at the bank resisted him, so he fled through Alausa street linking Degun street into the town.
An eyewitness account revealed that the boy’s mother who later arrived the scene with some people went straight to smash the windscreen of the vehicle as the police at the scene looked helplessly.
“We were surprised when we saw what happened and within minutes that the incident occurred, some policemen arrived,we believe that he called them and they took the corpse of the boy away in their new black Hilux van,” an eyewitness said.
“All efforts to know where they were taking him to fell on deaf ears as they threatened to shoot anybody who came close to them. The police shielded the officer and helped him escape. If not for their presence, we would have apprehended the man,” the eyewitness narrated.
On her arrival at the scene, the mother of the boy, who is in her late 30’s wept profusely cursing the killer of her son, which according to her, was the only source of her joy.
“What again am I waiting for in life, Ope is my only child and I had him through Caesarian operation almost 14 years ago and since then I have not conceived.
“The police should just kill me now with their guns. This is wickedness, an action with no fear of God,” the mother was quoted to have said while smashing the windscreen of the car.
Our correspondent gathered from a source in the state mortuary that the police brought the corpse of a young boy around 5:00pm in an identified hilux van.
As at the time of filling this report, some policemen were still in the area, watching over the smashed vehicle and trying to maintain peace and order in the area.
