Nigeria forward, Peter Odemwingie, has revealed that a surgery is now “required” for his injured cruciate knee ligament.
Odemwingie is now expected to miss a larger period of the current season following the injury he sustained in Stoke City’s 1-0 win at Manchester City on Saturday.
Reports suggest that the former Bendel Insurance man could out for up to 10 months.
The 33-year-old Nigerian confirmed on Tuesday that he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, as “I will miss many games of the season.”
The former Cardiff City and West Brom man wrote on his Twitter account: “It’s confirmed now surgery is required. Really gutted I will miss many games of the season. (I) Will work hard to be back as early as possible.
“We have a strong squad that will do great in the league and I will be back well in time for the Wembley finals!”
Initially Odemwingie’s injury was perceived to be a minor knock after he was stretchered off the pitch in Stoke City’s famous win at the Etihad over the weekend.
But the injury to Odemwingie, who is considered an important figure at Stoke City, forced the club’s manager, Mark Hughes, to sign Moroccan winger, Oussama Assaidi, on loan from Liverpool on the deadline day of the summer transfer window.
