'Keshi Has A Grudge Against Us' – Bafana Bafana Coach
South African coach, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba has claimed that Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi was aiming to beat the Bafana Bafana in today’s African Nations Cup qualifier, just to prove a point after he was snubbed by South Africa Football Association(SAFA) for their national coaching job.
Keshi and Portuguese-born coach Carlos Queiroz were front runners for the South African job. But even when Queiroz opted out Keshi was never considered, Mashaba was appointed.
“Coach Keshi is going to fight. This is because he believes he should have been coach of the South African team. He is going to try to use all his psychological tactics to make sure that all his players follow his instructions,” Mashaba said
“The match could be a defining moment – it is time to kick this habit of losing to Nigeria,” said the 64-year-old who was promoted last month from national youth team coach to the Bafana Bafana job.
“Bafana have become a laughing stock and our duty is to restore pride in the national team. Winning in Sudan was the start of a rebuilding process.”
Mashaba also pleaded with South African fans to come out in their numbers to cheer the Bafana Bafana to victory.
The South Africans have never beaten Nigeria in any competitive match for 22 years. Boosted by their generous win over Sudan in Khartoum, they are hoping to outscore the Super Eagles who are desperately seeking for a win, after they succumbed to Congo-Brazzaville in Calabar 3-2.
