The Enugu State House of Assembly has reportedly impeached the state’s Deputy Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi.
The House of Assembly voting, as a result of which Onyebuchi was removed from the office, was held August 26, Premium Times reports.
While the details of the story are yet to be obtained, it is believed that the move could be masterminded by governor Sullivan Chime.
The deputy governor was allegedly accused of operating a commercial poultry at his official residence and of disobeying the state governor. However according to the applicable legislation these are not impeachment offences. In his turn, Onyebuchi reportedly stated that Governor Chime  also operated a piggery at the Government House.
He told the panel that Chime’s  poultry, funded by the state since 2011, was evacuated last Wednesday soon after the panel sitting start. Onyebuchi, who tendered the state’s budget between 2011 and 2014, claimed that the poultry had always been operated based on state budget support.
The deputy governor added that both his and Chime’s poultries had been there before the two came to office in 2007.
Reports about governor Chime asking Onyebuchi to resign surfaced about a month ago. However the deputy governor showed no signs of fear in connection with the series of impeachments rocking the country and said that his major concern was not removal but truth, which Nigerians should know. Still the pressure was rising and even caused Onyebuchi’s collapse right in front of the panel during the hearing held August 1
