Manchester United have unveiled their new home kits as they mark the beginning of the most lucrative shirt sponsorship deal in football history.
According to ESPN, the 2013 Premier League champions are beginning a seven-year contract with car manufacturers Chevrolet worth 53 million pounds a season.
A typical red shirt has a white collar and a label inside the back reads “Youth, Courage, Greatness,” which United believe sums up their values.
It was gathered that Louis van Gaal’s side will wear the new strip for the first time in a preseason friendly against Los Angeles Galaxy on 23 July, 2014.
United are in the final year of a deal with kit manufacturers Nike and the subsequent contract is expected to bring in a record-breaking sum.
The Old Trafford club finished 7th in the league last season which led to former coach, David Moyes’ sack.
With the appointment of Dutch coach van Gaal, a lot of Man United’s fans are believing it would be the beginning of a new dawn in the club’s history.
Meanwhile, Van Gaal has added the coach of Netherlands’ under-21 team to his backroom staff at Manchester United.
Albert Stuivenberg becomes the third Dutchman to join Van Gaal’s coaching team at Old Trafford, along with chief opposition scout Marcel Bout and goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek.
The 43-year-old, who will be United’s assistant coach, spent seven years as manager of Netherlands’ under-17 teams, winning the European Championship in both 2011 and 2012.
Stuivenberg, who has been in charge of his country’s under-21 team for the last year, began his coaching career at Feyenoord.
He will relinquish his coaching duties with Netherlands to start at United with immediate effect.
Assistant manager Ryan Giggs is the only internal appointment in the new-look regime.
