Nigerian Law student hangs self in Abuja

Auwal Haruna, a student of the Nigerian Law School, in Abuja has committed suicide. Motives for the death at press time are unclear.
The 30-year-old student was found in his room at the Mairiga Guest Inn in Takum, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Mohammed, for marrying a second wife against their wishes.
Twenty-seven-year-old Ahmed is being held in detention by police, as he is believed to have spearheaded the abduction and murder of his
father in the Gembu District of Jalingo. Police officials ASP Joseph Kwaji, Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Police Command, confirmed the suicide publicly, assuring that the
police would fully investigate it.
Kwaji recounted recent cases of suicide in the state, admitting that many young people are extremely frustrated. In speaking with reporters about the matter of suicide, he said he has warned many
young people against what he called the destructive influences of drug abuse.
“Most of these young men commit suicide as a result of drug abuse and frustration in life”, he said. “Suicide is not the solution to our problems, because it is not only contrary to the laws of the land, but also against our religions”.
In January of 2014, Mansur Tank, 21, shocked the Nigerian public when he set himself ablaze and later died. The reason? His father, Tanko Mijinyawa, had refused to bless his marriage, claiming that his
prospective bride, Blessing, was a wrong choice.
The following month Saidu Babura, a 45-year-old security guard, hung himself to death on a tree. This reportedly took place after a years-long protracted battle with drug abuse.
Other incidents of suicide in the state are a cause of concern, but not all suicides are drug related, added Kwaji. In the same month of the Babura suicide, Friday Samson, a final-year student at the Taraba
State University — had poisoned himself and died, explaining in a note his frustration with his inability to pay his school fees.
