Edo state police arrests 33 suspected cultist and armed rubber.
THE Edo State Po lice Command yesterday paraded 33 suspects allegedly involved in cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The Edo state Police Commissioner, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, who paraded the suspects, said the command was determined to go after criminal elements to sustain the relative peace the state was enjoying
in the last few months.
Two of the suspects, Thompson Oguwzi and Labaran Mohammed were arrested for alleged impersonation of Army Lieutenant and Captain respectively. They were allegedly seen in Army uniform going about from one hotel to another, claiming to be army officers.
Police investigation was said to have later revealed that the two suspects were not serving army officers.
The commissioner who described the trend of cultism in the state as “disturbing” said whoever was using cultists to kill, whether businessmen or politicians would not be spared by the police.
”Killing is a very serious offence, we will not condone it. If you kill somebody, we will get you. I am warning those sponsoring the cultists to desist”, Adebanjo stated. He called on the people of the state to give useful information to the police and form partnership with the police for effective crime
fighting, stressing that the police is friend of members of the public. Items recovered from the suspects included seven guns, 14 Cartridges and eight rounds of live ammunition.
