«Why Harris lost to Trump” – African school of Governance President
Professor Kingsley Moghalu, President of the Rwanda-based African School of Governance, has outlined the reasons behind Vice President Kamala Harris’s loss to former President Donald Trump.
According to Professor Moghalu, factors such as sexism, economic perceptions, the white working class, and Trump’s strong personality contributed to Harris’s defeat on Tuesday.
In a statement on Wednesday, the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stated that Americans were not ready for a female president.
Moghalu argued that while Harris was campaigning for economic prosperity, inflation was going up during the period.
“Sexism – Americans are not ready yet for a female President. Perceptions of the Economy – Inflation that’s coming down but was high for most of the campaign season.
“Harris could not overcome the skepticism of the white working class. Many reasons for this, including both racism and sexism. Obama overcame racism, but his mother was white and the timing was propitious.
“That Trump’s victory was sweeping, encompassing virtually all the “battleground” states including the “blue wall” of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin says something: despite Trump’s controversial legal record and personality, Americans broadly wanted him.
They are not as enamored of the ‘woke’ liberal agenda as the left-leaning media would have us believe. They want a return to more “traditional” values, even if Trump was not necessarily the perfect exemplar of those values.
“Traditional values cloaks many things, some good and some bad. Harris ran an excellent campaign (in a short 100 days!), worked hard, and organized well. She simply could not overcome the factors (good and bad) that drove support for Trump,” Moghalu stated.
