The hashtag #JusticeforChristianah has been trending online after a 200 level student from Olabisi Onobanjo University (OOU) Adeleye Ayomide reportedly arrested for killing a 300 level Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) student, Idowu Christianah.

Christianah was abducted on the 19th of August on her way to the University of Lagos, UNILAG, where she does her Industrial Training, IT. She was declared missing after her abductors contacted her parents using her own WhatsApp account. The kidnappers sent photos of her captivity via the ‘view once’ feature and demanded N3 million in ransom.

Christianah’s parents raised N350,000, which they transferred to a betting account as directed by the abductors.

After receiving the payment, the kidnappers demanded a copy of the sender’s bank statement. Christianah’s family provided it on August 23, but the abductors ceased communication afterward. Meanwhile, part of the ransom was transferred into Christianah’s GTB account and later withdrawn into a Wema Bank account connected to the primary suspect, Adeleye Ayomide.

On August 26, investigators began monitoring the associated bank accounts. By August 29, they confirmed that the BVN linked to the betting account belonged to Adeleye Ayomide, who had already withdrawn N100k before the betting company froze the account. Investigators also uncovered a personal connection between Ayomide and Christianah through evidence of their Instagram interactions.

Further tracking of Ayomide’s mobile device led authorities to his parents’ home in Ikorodu, prompting military personnel from the 174 Battalion to be dispatched for his arrest. A search of his phone revealed incriminating evidence, including Christianah’s phone and bank records tying Ayomide to the crime. Email exchanges between Ayomide and the family were also uncovered.

On September 3, 2024, Ayomide confessed to killing Christianah and burying her in his family home. According to reports, the suspect allegedly killed his first victim, his girlfriend when he was 17-year-old. He also allegedly killed his sister and buried both victims in his parents’ house before being caught by the police.

News of Christianah’s murder by the suspected serial killer has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many demanding for justice. Some reactions are shown below:

Seisarl said, “This ‘friend’ allegedly killed his own sister and ex-girlfriend. He has killed Christianah too. You see that 15-year-old boy? hold him. Don’t let him go scott-free.”

Osetbaby said, “This is a psychopath, and yet some people want us to rehabilitate and bring this grand manipulator back into our system?”

Kristiannah said, “This guy’s behaviour is devilish, acting innocent while conversing with others. It’s quite devastating. A musician once said, ‘You trust who you know, but you don’t know a soul, except the one you own.”

Idans said, “The guy is a serial killer, and he killed his girlfriend in 2018. The suspect’s ex-girlfriend was killed in the same manner. Also that in 2020, the suspect’s own biological sister met the same fate, and the same thing has happened to Christiannah in 2024. He should be killed too.”

Olamide said, “They must not sentence him to death by hanging or to death; it must be by fire, so he continues in hell. Ayomide at 17 killed his first victim and buried her in his parent house. Then we need to ask his parents a lot of questions because there is no way they won’t know something about their son.”
