Gunmen Sack Nigerian Police Checkpoint In Abia, Kill Two Officers, Injure Another
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen, numbering six, came in a Sienna sport utility vehicle.
Dare-devil gunmen on Friday evening killed two policemen and injured one other following an attack on their checkpoint at the popular Opobo Junction along the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Expressway in Abia State.
It was gathered that the police officers were at the junction for their usual evening stop-and-search operation.
However, a few minutes later, several police patrol teams swept into the area as residents fled the road.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen, numbering six, came in a Sienna sport utility vehicle.
The incident caused chaos in the area, prompting shop owners along the road and traders at Ehere market to close their shops, with some abandoning their wares to seek safety.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported how gunmen on May 30 opened fire on a military checkpoint in Obikabia junction in Aba, Abia State.
The terrorists, who also burnt the soldiers’ patrol truck, were said to be enforcing the sit-at-home order declared by IPOB across the South-East region to mark the Biafra Day, which is celebrated annually in the region.
The heavily armed men, clad in black outfits, were seen sporadically firing shots at the junction.
