Nigeria Police Dismiss the Two Officers in viral video Demanding Money from Dutch Tourist in Oyo
The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has ordered the immediate dismissal of two Special Constabularies working with the state command who were caught on camera demanding money from a Dutch female biker tourist who was touring African countries..
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, on Thursday ordered immediate dismissal of the two constabularies identified as Jimoh Lukman and Kareem Fatai, for extortion.
The dismissed officers were paraded at the Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan, the state capital after the video where they demanded money from a Dutch tourist riding on a power bike from the Netherlands and headed to Abuja went viral.
SaharaReporters had reported that the two officers who were caught in the viral video demanding a bribe from the tourist were subsequently arrested.
The two officers were consequently stripped of the Nigerian Police uniform to further confirm their exit from constabulary service.
The Commissioner of Police said their dismissal from police constabulary followed a recommendation of the orderly room investigation.
According to him, the IGP’s zero tolerance for corrupt practices in the Nigerian police, warning that such conduct which he described as embarrassing, would not be condoned from any officer.
The CP said that “The two dismissed constabularies would not be prosecuted in court since they were not originally trained officers of the Nigerian police.”
