Sanwo-Olu’s government stops 50% discount for BRT buses transport fares in Lagos
The Lagos government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially declared the imminent conclusion of the 50% transport fare discount.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Recall that in a bid to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal, the state government in August slashed the costs of transportation of all state-owned transport systems by 50 percent.
The 50% fare reduction, which has been in effect for a limited period, will end this Sunday, as confirmed by LAMATA.
Effective Monday, November 6th, 2023, transport fares are set to revert to the applicable rates prior to the August 2nd adjustment.
LAMATA urged residents to take note of the upcoming shift, advising the populace to prepare for the reversion to the pre-August transport fare rates.
”The public is hereby informed that from Monday, 6th November 2023, transport fare will return to the pre-2nd August 2023 rate,” a statement from the agency informed residents.
