Multiple people reportedly k!lled after Israel dropped four bombs in Gaza refugee camp (Watch Videos)
Multiple deaths and injuries have been reported at the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza after the Israeli military launched four bombs on Tuesday, October 31.
The Hamas-run heath ministry, and the director of the nearby Indonesian hospital, say at least 50 people have been killed. The ministry said the blast was caused by an Israeli air strike. French news agency, AFP, who had reporters on the scene, say footage from the scene showed at least 47 bodies recovered from the rubble at the scene in Jabalia.
In the photos taken by a Reuters photographer at the scene, a significant area of the Jabalia refugee camp appears to have been levelled. Photos show large impact craters surrounded by concrete and steel rubble from collapsed buildings strewn everywhere.
In one building next to a crater, a child – who survived – is being carried to safety by a man from an upper floor while dozens of people search the rubble for survivors. Located north of Gaza City, the Jabalia camp is the largest of Gaza’s eight refugee camps.
Refugees began settling in the camp after the 1948 war. It’s a small but densely populated area, only covering 1.4 sq km, and is largely made up of residential buildings. Just over 116,000 Palestinian refugees were registered there by the UN as of July 2023. The Israeli military has not yet commented on the blast as at press time.
